Taxpayer Rights are YOUR Concern Too!

The assessment and collection of revenue is integral to what we do at TTB. We do our jobs not just as employees, but law abiding citizens of the country we love. The U.S. Congress and Executive Branch have set forth certain laws that protect taxpayers (including the industry members we regulate) with certain rights. The rights of an industry member should never be taken lightly. If you see ANY violation of taxpayer’s rights, either de-facto through management policy or through implicit practices, you have the right, and responsibility, to report these violations to the Treasury Inspector General’s office.

Always remember that sunlight is the best disinfectant. TTB management should be able to explain their revenue assessment and collection policies to anyone, either inside or outside TTB. As an organization, we should always be striving for consistency, accuracy, and fairness towards the industries from which we collect excise taxes. It is our ethical practices that make this happen.

If you know of any violation of taxpayer rights that needs to be looked into, please contact the OIG Hotline at (800) 359-3898. The Hotline is staffed Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Eastern Time; an after-hours message recording is available. Written complaints may be sent via fax to (202) 927-5404 or e-mail to hotline@oig.treas.gov. Complaints may also be mailed to: Treasury Hotline, Office of Inspector General 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20220.
